In April 1999, Betty and Carl Pigott purchased a small copy shop on the UW–Madison campus from Bob Shelton and Mike Shelton. At the time, the shop was located at 1314 Johnson Street. When that building was later torn down to make way for the new Memorial Union South, the business relocated in 2006 to the well-known purple building at 1401 University Avenue, formerly home to the French Quarter Café and Luther’s Blue Night Club.
After five years of growing the business at that location, it became clear that expanding production would require a move off campus while still maintaining access to course materials for students. The production center found a new home at 710 W. Wingra Drive, offering a larger space with room to grow and expand services.
In May 2015, the decision was made to close the campus storefront and focus on the commercial side of the business. While the physical campus location closed, Bob’s Copy Shop continues to support course materials, which are now available for students through the University Bookstore on State Street.
Today, Bob’s Copy Shop is proudly in its second generation of ownership. Betty and Carl’s son, Mark, and his wife, Amy, have taken over the business. They are honored to continue what Betty and Carl started and are committed to building on that legacy while serving the community for years to come.
